However, prices are subject to the laws of economics;
the more experienced or skilled talent can generally demand a better price.

Books
 
a) Hi-end book designers known for their successful work with
other publishers ask a flat price for total book projects. These projects
may take multiple months to determine the direction, work with editors,
establish grid systems, select type faces, and come up with award winning
look for books or series of books
Textbooks - $ 30,000 - $ 70,000
Trade books that have complex visuals may be higher.  
  b) Standard Textbooks $ 90 - $ 150 page for design
  plus $ 60 to $ 110 for production
Design direction will often come from client but the production part will
have to make serious corrections to designs for it work.

Trade books are first presented to publisher as a "treatment", generally consisting of
around 100 pages. If sold, the publisher will provide an advance fee for the full
document writing. The complete book must be throughly thought out during this stage
and provide enough "sell" to make it viable for a publisher. Ghostewriters that have
strong credentials will not take the treatment stage on without at least $10,000.
